12 T he road implement industry is on a safe route to recovery. After a strong of poor results, the industry has seen positive change in the business. This encourages the leaders of companies to believe in gradual growth. No one is under any illusions. Far from it. Our losses totaled two-thirds of the domestic market and replacing this takes time and does not depend on road implement manufacturers alone. Broad economic recovery is fundamental to our recovery. Being directly linked to other sectors, our sector is certainly one of the main parties interested in the success of the government’s economic policy. As might be expected because of its bumper harvests, farming shows the first signs of recovery and with this the agribusiness sector has been a starting motor in recovery. The influence it has had on the performance of our industry has been direct. Recovery in business for the manufacturers of trailers and semi-trailers has picked up and in 2018 growth was 79.21%. For the body on chassis sector, growth was 28% on 2017. It was lower because of the slower business does in cities, which directly influences the sales of these implements. Consequently, the industry overall grew by 49.1% year on year. No one expects any government action to grow business over night. It is better to go steadily than quickly. But some changes are important and have been implemented successfully. Privatization is one example. Recent history teaches that private initiative in certain operations, such as airports, is always reflected in the generation of new business in the short, medium and long term. The continuation of this program and other similar initiatives offers business opportunities for the industry. Rather than offering tax breaks, it is better to support the development of business in a sustainable environment, without the artificial benefits of the past which were very damaging and not missed.
